MTG makes fool of herself again, this time for failed anti-trans rally

Cole even took to Twitter to boost the amazing 12-person turnout and mention how “gender ideology doesn’t stand a chance.” Well, in some cases, one can say less is more. In this case, that doesn’t apply—the reality is this is a laughable, not applaudable, turnout.

Protesters at the event held signs that read “Children cannot consent to puberty blockers,” “Gender ideology does not belong in schools,” and other signs that defined what a mom and dad were.

Of course, Greene showed up with the infamous transphobic sign that hangs in front of her congressional office reading: “There are two genders: male and female. ‘Trust the science.’”

We’ll leave the science lesson for later, but spoiler alert biology has proven otherwise.

According to LBGTQ nation, instead of actually demonstrating, the majority of rallygoers spent their time taking pictures of each other and then re-tweeting one another’s social posts.

Most of the tweets were exaggerated, with one claiming that demonstrators were “calling out policies that push for minors to have access to puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and sex-reassignment surgeries.”

The reality is that no policies are pushing such treatment or surgeries, so those tweets were only made for the purpose of riling up conservatives. I mean, they had no one show up for support, so they had to resort to lying—pretty pathetic.

But enough about Greene’s failed event. Let’s focus on the people who actually matter and are making a difference through successful demonstrations.

While it may be old news to some, a video of a teen from October is still making its rounds on social media for the teen’s bravery in defending LGBTQ rights during a school board meeting in Michigan. We all know how violent school board meetings have been across the country—with many individuals even threatening and stalking those who speak against their views—so this bravery and tear-jerking testimony is even more heartwrenching.

The teen, identified as 19-year-old Jojo Gremel, addressed a Dearborn Schools board at a meeting on Oct. 13, 2022, to talk about the challenges LGBTQ students face. Gremel was booed and jeered during the meeting, but did not let the audience’s demoralizing behavior impact their words.

Watch the video for yourself below.

Greene and other Republicans will continue to host such transphobic events and spread hate, but we must remember that people like Gremel will speak up. When they do, we must support them. There is strength in numbers, and silence against injustice is complicity.

Happy New Year! Daily Kos’ Joan McCarter is on the show today to talk about the wild garbage fire that was the Republican speaker of the House vote. Kerry and Markos also break down what this onionskin-thin conservative majority can and cannot do in the coming year, as well as what the Democratic representatives can do to make Kevin McCarthy’s life just that much tougher.
