I occasionally run into people my age who see themselves as conservative, or uncaring about politics. They always strike me as being oblivious to what is actually going on, especially those who have lived though the civil rights movement and the LGBQT movement and all sorts of struggles for the very liberties the Constitution promise all inhabitants of this country. Some even seem to suggest that we already had it with the Constitution and the fight is over.
That is bull. It is one thing to say that the constitution said that certain rights belonged to all due to that phrase in the constitution as provided by God. But, unless the national discourse accepts that, inforces that on the natural human level, it is not true. God may see us that way but it is up to human beings on this planet to enforce and accept that truth or people are denied that “universal freedom”. Both African-Americans and Native-Americans are two groups who, although we are told were given equal rights by God were denied those rights and treated as slaves or subhumans by those same Bible quoting people. Neither group could have said with any truth in their minds that “god had provided it” because the naton sure hadn’t.
I would go even further and insist that the LGBTQ community have NEVER had that God-given freedom that the right likes to substitute for real, nationally accepted equality and freedom. Only during Obama’s time in office, was that finally established by a freedom accepting Supreme Court which unfortunately we seem to have lost in the current way of trumpian bigotry and human rights violations. Let me be clear here, all people have the same rights is only true if it includes the people hated by the majority of white anglo-saxon heterosexuals as well. Religious hatred and bigotry that results in fewer rights to be left alone denies that there is true freedom, period!! As a gay male, I don’t care really what you think as long as I have the right, yes, the RIGHT, to live with equal rights to you.
So, for many of even people that I thought were friends, I find myself being accused of being too political…of hating a man they seem to love. How any LGBTQ person would EVER support the dignity destroying, freedom hating bigot like trump is beyond me entirely, the same as in the fact that many supported Hitler as well, if our history books are correct, and I think they are. Don’t worry, the person that I though was a friend who acted hostile is no longer on my Facebook page. I understand hostility fine, thanks. Byeeee.
If I, as a gay male, do not have the freedom of my life, that is a violation of our entire nation’s apparent promises from the Constitution on down. Yes, I know that many people have never had those “god-given rights” accorded to them, more is the pity for a nation of heightened ego and arrogance as to continue to insist that we are the best nation in the world. Show me the evidence with freedom and equal rights or don’t ever say it to me.
Now we are more and more turning into a horrible carcatiture of decent nation. So, after reading the hatred of the right MAGA worshipers of trump on a fairly obscene hate rant group calling itself “American Thinker” (always as hypocritical as the “freedom Causus” who are actually fighting for THEIR right to tell everybody else how to live) I will answer their question as to why older people, like myself, cared enough to go out and march in the hot sun using a walker to protest against trump stealing of power and destruction of justice and equal rights, I will answer their question.
I marched, even braving several dizzy spells, because I thought it was important that like Germany after Hitlers’s grab of power and his destruction of the prior decent society that was Germany, we need to move this nation beyond the small minded, nasty spirited society it is becoming because of trump’s destruction attackment to his own ego.
The “military” parade was a scam. It was a celebration of anything trump’s massive arrogant ego and I refuse to acknowledge his “worthliness”.
I know, to the extent that I have a personal enemy, that my current enemy in this country is not the independent free media, it is trump and his oblivous (even to the damage he is doing to themselves) followers.
Just as many Americans have asked over the years, how did so many decent Germans give in and let that monster of a human being create the massive destruction of World War II, I ask that same question. How the heck are some decent Americans willing to give it all in worship of the orange man who thinks he deserves our worship and obedience. Not me, Never me.
And yes, as long as my health holds, I will RESIST the wannabe DICTATOR. We can’t let this country going any further in the direction of Nazi Germany. We have already come too far…..much too far.
