Doug Emhoff’s Ex-Wife Expertly Claps Back At Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ Kamala Harris Dig

Kerstin Emhoff, the ex-wife of second gentleman Doug Emhoff, shot back Wednesday after Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) took a jab at Vice President Kamala Harris for not having biological children.

During a town hall event for former President Donald Trump on Tuesday, Sanders, who served as press secretary in Trump’s administration, told an anecdote about how her three children often “humble” her.

Sanders recalled helping her daughter get ready for a dance. “I start to get a little bit emotional, teared up,” she said. “As my eyes fill with tears, my sweet daughter reaches up, pats my shoulder and says: ‘It’s OK, mommy. One day you can be pretty too.’”

“So my kids keep me humble,” she continued, before mispronouncing Harris’ first name. “Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn’t have anything keeping her humble.”

Emhoff, a film and TV producer who shares two adult children with the second gentleman, defended her and Harris’ blended family on social media.

“Cole and Ella keep us inspired to make the world a better place,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “I do it through storytelling. Kamala Harris has spent her entire career working for the people, ALL families.”

“That keeps you pretty humble,” she continued.

Doug and Kerstin Emhoff divorced in 2008 after 16 years of marriage. Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, wed Doug Emhoff in 2014.

The producer has publicly defended Harris against right-wing attacks before, and she often celebrates their positive co-parenting relationship.

In July, Emhoff slammed conservatives for calling Harris “childless” as an insult.

“These are baseless attacks,” she told New York Times White House reporter Katie Rogers. “For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and I.”

Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Trump’s running mate, continues to face wide backlash over comments he made in a 2021 interview, recently resurfaced, in which he mocked Harris as one of the “childless cat ladies” running the country who are “miserable” with their lives.
