Today is August 1st and charges and the day that the truth seems to be coming out with the DOJ indicting TFG (the formal guy) that was in the White House with the charge of trying to end our democracy and prevent the peaceful transfer of power to Biden, the newly elected President chosen by 81 million Americans.
Those of us who have watching this mess for the last two plus years are seeing our hopes given credence and a certain reassurance that at least there will be a good attempt at bring TFG to justice.
He started the lie and continued it past the point when all trials had been found not to include any real evidence that there was any basis for the claim he, and his followers were making. Georgia, in particular, had Republicans in charge of the vote count and even they felt that there was no justification for his claims.
Then there is the fact that his strongest supporters were crack-pots like Mike Lindell, Sydney Powell and Rudy Giuliani. Sydney Powell, after all her flamboyant claims, fell back on the defense that “nobody should believe what a lawyer claims in their efforts to defend their client, to justify her involvement in the fraud. We, many of us, knew all along that TFG was a con-man who would say whatever to make himself look good and hopefully hold on to power, and the people around him were clues to what kind of scam he was running.
I admit, I was one of those who suspected that the charges would never be brought and that trump would skate clean and never pay for any of his shenanigan. There is still the possibility that if the jury is not carefully vetted, he could slip by without any penalty, but at least now the chances are that we the people will be able to see how a trial goes and if the evidence is there, that he might ever pay with some prison time.
I consider this a break for those of us wanting Justice and who also want to establish the principal that we missed establishing when Nixoen’s gang did their nasty deed because Ford gave Nixon a pardon. We need, as a country, to establish that principle now…because we know now how bad things can get if we don’t.
So, let’s applaud Jack Smith and hope and encourage in every way we can, the courts to look at the evidence and if, as I suspect, the evidence is clearly there, throw the book at him, and have congress proceed as soon as possible to enact clear ethics guidances and a clause that even the President is subject to the laws of the land. The criminality encouraged by Nixon was bad enough but trumps is about 10 times as bad.
Enough is enough!!!
