The 40-year-old suspect accused of gunning down four people at a subdivision outside of Atlanta was killed during a manhunt, authorities said Sunday.
Andre Longmore’s death was confirmed to local station WSB-TV by Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett.
Two police officers were wounded during the manhunt. Few details on their condition were immediately available, but officials said both officers were conscious.
Three men and one woman were killed in the Saturday shooting, which police say occurred just before 11 a.m. in the Dogwood Lakes area of Hampton and left four different crime scenes.
The identities of the victims were not immediately released. Police had not commented on a possible motive as of Sunday afternoon.
A neighbor told WSB-TV that he had watched the shooting unfold right outside his home. Frankie Worth said that he’d been at the window when he’d heard a gunshot, and looked out to see the gunman casually fire into a vehicle on the road. “I was kind of confused, why ain’t my neighbor stepped on the gas,” Worth said. “He didn’t step on the gas because he been hit.”
Earlier on Sunday, Scandrett had announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to Longmore’s arrest.
Addressing the gunman directly, Scandrett had harsh words: “Wherever you are, we will hunt you down in whatever hole you may be hiding in and bring you into custody. Period.”
The attack is the 31st mass killing in the United States this year, according to the Associated Press.
