The Barbie movie hasn’t even opened in American theaters yet, but the right is lining up to express their faux outrage about things.
First, we have US Representative Mike Gallagher (WTAF-WI) getting bent out of shape about a cartoonish map that can be seen in the trailer, claiming it kowtows to China:
Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher said this week that he hopes a cartoon map in the highly-anticipated and excessively pink “Barbie” movie by Warner Bros. is not a statement on territorial claims in the South China Sea.
“While it may just be a Barbie map in a Barbie world, the fact that a cartoonish, crayon-scribbled map seems to go out of its way to depict the PRC’s [People’s Republic of China] unlawful territorial claims illustrates the pressure that Hollywood is under to please CPP [Chinese Communist Party] censors,” Gallagher said in a statement.
Gallagher’s critique comes in response to a dashed line on a colorful “World Map” that appears in images from the movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Critics have interpreted the line that appears near a blue misshapen blob labeled ‘Asia’ as the nine-dash line, which is a disputed boundary on various maps that represents Beijing claiming large portions of the South China Sea as its territory.
It should be noted that Gallagher has spearheaded the war on TikTok because of its links to China. Maybe Gallagher is acting out because he got an unfortunate fortune cookie or something.
Senators Ted Cruz and Marsha Blackburn and Representative Mark Green have also been stomping their little silk-stocking feet in outrage over this mock up map.
It must be nice to have all that free time to just make up crazy shit to get bent out of shape about. I’m just surprised they haven’t gotten upset by the Grimace stuff going on at McDonald’s.
But it’s not just politicians having conniptions about this movie before they’ve seen it. Kent Christmas, pastor at the Regeneration Nashville megachurch and insane asylum is rather upset about the movie too:
“I curse in the name of the Lord this new Barbie movie that has been released full of transsexual, and transgender, and homosexuality,” said Christmas, in footage from his sermon posted on Twitter.
Again, it has not been released yet and won’t be for another week or so. So there is no way for Father Christmas to know what’s actually in the movie.
His Barbie Derangement Syndrome must have been triggered by Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken, wearing lots of pink. All the pink clothing is obviously because his character is gay and possibly trans, right? Right?
