Biden’s Team Scrambles Post-Debate; Trump Leads In New 2024 Poll: Live Updates

Thousands of delegates will attend the Democratic National Convention next month to select the party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential election. The Washington Post interviewed more than three dozen delegates who said that they would support President Joe Biden as the party’s nominee.

But doubts and concerns about Biden’s age still remain among some delegates after his weak performance at the presidential debate last week and the faltering polls that followed.

Some delegates said that they would prefer a different candidate, such as Vice President Kamala Harris, and others are nervous about the party’s ability to win against Trump regardless of who their candidate is, especially in the aftermath of the debate.

But all of the delegates interviewed by the Post said they would still vote for Biden unless he drops out of the race.

Katybeth Davis, a 40-year-old delegate from Michigan, told the Post she will support Biden if he is the candidate, but “we can do better.

“I would support having the succession go through and having Kamala Harris take over the reins and see what that’s like,” Davis said.

“I’m all in, riding with Biden,” Joshua Ferguson, another Michigan delegate, told the Post. “He has done so much for my community that I’ll back him 1,000%. I’m not concerned. I’m not voting for who’s best on television. I’m voting for who can pass the best legislation, who’s best in Washington, and Biden is definitely that.”

A growing number of lawmakers have called for Biden to withdraw from the race, though he confirmed this week that he has no intention of doing so.
