Trump Insults Reporter With A Snide Suggestion In Yet Another Press Clash

Donald Trump’s contempt for journalists boiled over again on Wednesday when the president told a foreign reporter to “get yourself a new job.” (Watch the video below.)

Polish radio correspondent Marek Walkuski noted that Trump has expressed disappointment and frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin “but there’s no action.”

The provocative comment rattled the president.

“How do you know there’s no action? Who are you with?” Trump asked, using one of his favorite strategies to call out a journalist. “Would you say that putting secondary sanctions on India — the largest purchaser outside of China, they’re almost equal — would you say there was no action?”

Trump claimed the United States’ recent tariff increase on India from 25% to 50% ― a tax designed to punish India for buying oil from Russia ― is costing Russia “billions of dollars.”

“But when you say there’s no action, I think you ought to get yourself a new job,” Trump sniped. “Because if you remember, two weeks ago, I said if India buys, India’s got big problems, and that’s what happened. So don’t tell me about that.”

Walkuski, part of the White House press corps since 2018, told The Hill that he actually appreciated Trump’s clapback.

“I got a newsworthy answer to my question from the president of the United States, and that’s my job as a journalist,” he said.

A career change for Walkuski apparently wasn’t forthcoming “but l’m grateful for his advice,” the reporter said.

Trump has routinely confronted journalists asking questions not to his liking.

He recently deflected a CNN reporter’s query about a split in the MAGA ranks over support for Israel. “Do you ever ask a positive question at CNN?” Trump replied. “My supporters are more in love with me today, and I’m in love with them, more than they were even at election time.”

The Washington Post has also been at the receiving end of Trump’s media intimidation, as has HuffPost.

“I don’t know even what you’re talking about,” Trump said to HuffPost’s S.V. Dáte on Air Force One in February. “Neither do you. Who are you with?”

“HuffPost, sir,” Dáte said.

“Oh, no wonder,” Trump said. “I thought they, I thought they died. Are they still around? I haven’t read them in years. I thought they died.”

On another front, Trump has escalated his dislike for mainstream media by suing outlets ― and having some success.
