CNN’s Abby Phillip Spots 1 ‘Real Problem’ For Democrats In Blunt Postelection Take

CNN anchor Abby Phillip on Monday declared that Democrats need to “break out” of echo chambers and embrace different points of view following Donald Trump’s election win over Kamala Harris.

Phillip, in remarks at Harvard University spotted by Mediaite, said she’s found that “elites” have increasingly talked exclusively to each other, which has led them to believe that their “consensus is shared broadly.”

This has presented an issue for Democrats, she argued, as there haven’t been enough people who will confidently push back and offer alternative views as a result.

“And we as a society need to find better ways to uplift divergent voices. Otherwise, we will be victims of groupthink,” Phillip said.

She then pointed to a multiracial, multiethnic “activist” class with a presence in the party.

“But it’s an activist class. And so because of that, they don’t — they’re not able to see outside of that,” Phillip told the crowd at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics.

She added that Republicans faced the “same problem” prior to the emergence of Trump and emphasized that Democrats need to “break out” of it.

“And I think it is a real problem. It’s not as simple as wokeness or whatever. It’s about people who are being incentivized to think about issues in a particular way,” Phillip said.

She continued that there needs to be “more courage” for people to speak out with “diverging opinions.”

“Otherwise, you know, I think it’s a — I think it’s a real issue,” Phillip said.
