Republicans have become the party of retribution, anger, and hate, exemplified after Missouri Republicans voted to defund their 399 public school libraries. State librarians filed a lawsuit over the First Amendment with the ACLU over book bans, sparking the backlash.
Librarians sued over a Missouri law banning books in school libraries they deem to have sexually explicit material.
Children, schools, books and now entire state libraries have become the new front for MAGA Republicans in their culture wars.
If you refuse to comply you will be punished.
Democratic state Rep. Peter Merideth voiced his outrage.
“I feel like we’re starting to live in a dystopian future from like 1984 or Fahrenheit 411 or whatever – 451 – where we’re talking about book bans from the government, and then the government being mad at librarians as the threat to our kids? And defunding public libraries. That’s the real world here today in Republican-led Missouri.”
This is not a one-off event in my estimation.
Expect more red states to implement the same tactics.
