Bear with me for a tale of hellfire and damnation against stupid appointees of Ron DeSantis!
The United Church of Christ founded and funds New College in Sarasota, Florida. New College is an independent college within the State University System of Florida, and Ron DeSantis flunkies now run its governing board.
These flunkies just voted to “eliminate the office handling diversity issues, with new board members appointed by DeSantis leading the charge” because of course they did.
During a hearing of public comments (limited to one minute each, how generous), Rev. John C. Dorhauer earned a ‘don’t sugarcoat it’ award for preaching hellfire to these bigoted DeSantis appointees. Damn!
Rev. Dorhauer leads the United Church of Christ and attended the public comment meeting. He also posted his comments on Facebook:
REV. DORHAUER: I am the Rev. Dr. John C. Dorhauer, General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ, the same United Church of Christ that funded and founded this college and couldn’t be prouder of what it has become.
When Martin Luther King, Jr. said that “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice” he had sycophants like the seven of you appointed by DeSantis in mind.
He intended to remind all of us that there were always going to be bullies and brutes like yourself seeking to deny the human rights of others, and that for a time you might succeed. He intended also to inspire the kind of fierce resistance you have been experiencing from the student body here on campus and which I witnessed first hand earlier today. And he did so to remind them not to give up when it looks like sycophants like you have their day because you have that only for a time. The arc of history will again, as it always has, grind you into dust and sweep you into the dustbin of history in its constant and unfaltering bending towards justice. History is going to claim you as the sycophants you are, and the students here today fighting for their rights are going to win.
He also spoke outside to protestors. We applaud him.
