House Ethics Committee Officially Investigating Lying Liar George Santos

The House Ethics Committee rarely leaks, but they had a big one on Tuesday. The Washington Post is reporting that a special subcommittee has been formed under the House Ethics Committee with one specific mission: To investigate New York Rep, proud liar and admitted fraudster, George Devolder Kitana Santos.

In a statement put out by the House Ethics Committee leaders, they confirm that they voted “unanimously to establish an investigative subcommittee” to look at George Santos shenanigans, including his business practices, campaign finance violations and an allegation of sexual misconduct by someone who was interviewing for a job in Santos’ office.

The bipartisan subcommittee will investigate whether Santos “engaged in unlawful activity with respect to his 2022 congressional campaign; failed to properly disclose required information on statements filed with the House; violated federal conflict of interest laws in connection with his role in a firm providing fiduciary services; and/or engaged in sexual misconduct towards an individual seeking employment in his congressional office.” That is A LOT of stuff to look into, hence the subcommittee just for him. Aw, George! You are special and important!

Here is the official announceent:

Santos was remarkably quiet when asked for a comment, tweeting the following:

“Fully cooperating” are not words that Santos understands. Is he cooperating with lies? Providing blank or edited financial forms? How does he describe “cooperating”?

Santos has faced non stop calls for him to step down, from both Democrats and Republicans. In fact, the only people who are really standing by him are the chaos caucus (Boebert, MTG, Gaetz) and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. When confronted with his lies, Santos has admitted to lying about his education and work history. Shamelessly admits it, in fact. When asked why he thought he could get away with it, Santos smirked and said “I ran in 2020 for the same exact seat for Congress, and I got away with [lying] then.”

Twitter welcomed the news of the investigation:

Two of the most vocal House members chimed in almost immediately:

Time to resign, Georgie. Go back to Goldman Sachs. Or Baruch College volleyball – can you coach? Maybe drag shows are still your thing? Regardless of your next professional venture, it is about time that you step away from politics.
