According to what actor Drew Droege revealed on Instagram, he had “a really nice date,” but it wasn’t all nice as the couple experienced a “really sad, hateful moment in the middle.” It was so bad that the management of the Mexican restaurant El Compadre in Los Angeles tried to contain the backlash after he threw a fit after the couple kissed.
“The food and our server were both great,” Droege explained.” We paid and had a bit of time before catching a show downtown. Finishing up our second drinks, we had our arms around each other and kissed a few times.”
“A manager approached our table and said something to the effect of, “you guys can’t do that here.” We were confused at first, but then he very firmly stated, “this is a family restaurant,” he continued.
The manager appears to need anger management therapy.
“I asked if anyone had complained to him, as we looked around and only saw happy straight couples eating, laughing, doing the same thing we were doing,” he said. “He threw his hands in front of us and said, “I don’t care if you’re the President of the United States; we don’t allow your behavior here.” We promptly got up and left.”
The restaurant issued a statement, saying that they “stand with the LGBTQ+ community” and “hold no space for intolerance, hate, or unjust treatment of our beloved guests regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, or status.”
That did not go down well because it was the manager who freaked out over the couple after they kissed. So, furious comments poured in, and now that statement has been taken down.
According to Out Magazine, the now-deleted statement, added, “Please give us time to seek out what happened, gather more information, and take appropriate action. We will update you soon. We love you and thank you for your patience while we work through correcting this.”
What are they going to investigate? Is the manager going to investigate himself to find out what happened? We know what happened. The manager is a bigot who doesn’t understand that gay people have families, too. Oh, and they kiss. And it’s 2022.
